A trifecta of Maples

http://img697.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=p1000052y.jpg

The palladium coin has a much nicer lustre than the silver maples. I was kinda 'meh'ing at it before I finally punched myself in the face and cut it out of the mint plastic. The plastic hid the nice lustre of the coin.

Now I'm only missing a 2009 1oz Pt coin. :banghead: Too expensive..

Nice, thanks for posting.

Where did you pick up the Palladium?

jellydonut 12-18-2009 12:50 PM

Re: A trifecta of Maples

I bought the palladium at APMEX, more out of curiosity than as an investment.

The bars are 1oz bars, however they are not marked with their weight and are actually used as number plaques for the Norwegian Mint's coin sets. These coin sets however contain only base metal coins, lots of them, along with other things, so dealers buy these sets and cannibalize them. Which results in auctions for stacks of these bars which aren't really sold as bars. I like them, they're all shiny and stuff. :bear_thumb:

some pics of the bars, their, uh, apartment building :moon: and some GIM rounds.

Great pics! I don't own any palladium. Most of my silver maples have the white blotches now.

I've been carrying around a 1/2 gold maple I just got and popped into an airtite. I never really noticed what well made and pretty coins they are until now.
Fantastic detail and I love the brushed gold background!
Then of course you flip it over and there's the HAG, but thats another thread.

Nice photos. Thanks. I've been meaning to get a palladium maple, but haven't yet. You've spurred me on to go out and grab one before the price increases too much.

I bought a couple of PALL maples a few weeks ago. They are indeed very attractive coins.

Agreed...There are pics but they are hosted at photobucket.

OP, if you can downsize your pics, you can upload them directly to your posts through the add attachment feature
that is present during your post writing.(sry can't explain better)

Ah, my borwser was blocking me from seeing the link.
From what I can tell in the pics the Ag maple outshines the Pd.

Re: A trifecta of Maples

Yeah the pics are really only for showing the size, they don't show the lustre of it very well. You'd have to hold it and see for yourself. :p It's got a very nice grey-bluish tinge too, I like it.

Here are a few shots, please excuse my poor photography skills. The krug is 1 oz.

Re: A trifecta of Maples

I took this one a year or so back to try and capture the striated surfaces of the coin. I'm not the greatest photographer either, unfortunately.

Maples with proof finish. This is a 1 oz Ag + tenth Au + tenth Pt, but they made the set in all one ounce coins as well (and I badly want one).

Man, I really like that
That is something I could afford too.
I gotta keep an eye out for one of those...
any tips?

Those are nice sets! I picked up the 1oz Silver proof with the wood case last week. They only did them one year.

They pop up on eBay every once in a while. When cashback was 15% I saw one for a decent price, but nothing lately.

Keep an eye on ebay Canada, and be very patient. I think I paid around 3% over spot for that one, but it took some time. There is a set on ebay right now listed for twice what it's worth. If it were me, I'd send the seller an offer for what it's really worth. With inventories slow to turn over, and even key date numismatic material selling at a discount, I am finding most dealers are more than happy to entertain reasonable offers these days.

Canadians only:

Ends in 5 minutes. Wish I could afford it, not a bad price.

Such beautiful coins in person. I actually scored a 1997 maple yesterday with pretty trippy toning. Was 27$ bucks but for a key date, I had to have it. :favorites8:

There it is. Unfortunately I need a new camera, but this scan shows it to some level. The toning is actually like cotton candy colored on the sides.

hope it's not a "milky" cotton candy color. haha

Surprisingly not! Curious, but is there some info on why this happens? I have 2006 that looks like someone painted the dang thing. Its like a snow effect that these are prone to. Also, do things like this effect the value?
